Responsibilites
Production
As the producer, I kept the project running smoothly by managing timelines, handling communication between teams, and making sure we hit our key goals.
Gameplay design: upgrades
I contributed to one of the four upgrades/items in the game: a stack of tires that serves as a bouncy wall. This item reflects projectiles and can be strategically used to block opponents' shots. When a player picks it up, they receive a preview of where the stack will be placed.
UI design and implementation
I designed and implemented the timer and score functionality in Unreal Engine.
Anytime a player gets an upgrade it shows up on next to the score so teams know who the upgrade applies to.
Facilitating Scrum
I ran sprint planning and daily standups, making sure the team stayed on the same page and knew what to tackle next. These quick check-ins helped us stay flexible and adapt to any new challenges that popped up, keeping the project on track.
Invisible headline
Once placed, the tire stack can be hit up to three times, with each hit removing one tire to indicate how many hits it has left before it disappears. This mechanic adds a fun tactical element, allowing players to use the tires defensively while keeping track of their durability.
Level design
We started with a basic map that had no obstacles to lay the groundwork for the game.
Once that was established, I introduced some variety by adding obstacles throughout the map to enhance gameplay. Players who frequently played on the base map expressed a desire for more challenges, so I made the goals smaller to increase the difficulty.
Level design
Additionally, I created maps featuring obstacles on the ice, allowing players to hide from each other and adding an element of unpredictability as the tires would bounce off them in fun ways. The three maps that made it into the game were rigorously tested with multiple rounds of playtesting to ensure a balanced and enjoyable experience..
Planning Meetings
I set up and ran our planning meetings, from brainstorming the initial scope to adjusting strategies as we went. Clear communication and solid goals kept us organized and ready to adapt when needed.
